In honor of National First-Generation College Celebration Day on Monday, November 8th, join us for a week long celebration of first-generation students, faculty, and staff at the University of Georgia!

Monday, November 8th
#CelebratingFirstGen
12:00-2:00 PM at Tate Plaza - This event is for UGA students, staff, and faculty.
Kick-off First Gen Celebration week with the Division of Academic Enhancement and
the Office of Student Transitions who are teaming up to give away t-shirts, food,
buttons, and much more (while supplies last). Join us to celebrate the success of
first-generation students at UGA!
First-Generation Student Mentoring Night
6:00-7:00 PM on Zoom - This event is for UGA students.
Join the UGA Mentor Program for a panel made up of UGA alumni, faculty, and staff
who will speak about their life experiences as first-generation students. This program
is dedicated to uplifting and supporting first-generation students at The University
and aligns with the Mentor Program's mission of fostering a culture of mentorship
at the University, specifically by being inclusive to ensure all students have access
to meaningful mentorships.

Tuesday, November 9th
First-Generation Graduate Event: Bringing TED Talks to First-Gen Stories
5:30-7:30 PM at Demosthenian Hall - This event is for UGA graduate students.
Join the Graduate School and TEDxUGA where grad students will learn how to transform
their first-gen journeys into narratives that reflect their strengths and their successes.
The deadline to register is Thursday, November 4th. Light refreshments will be provided
for the first 30 graduate students to register.

First-Generation Dinner and Dialogue
6:00 PM - This event is by invitation only.
Coca-Cola First Generation (CCFG) Scholars and TRIO Scholars will join the Division
of Academic Enhancement for a facilitated conversation about what it means to be a
first-generation college student. UGA Students will share their experiences with TRIO
pre-collegiate students.
Council for Opportunity in Education Lunch and Learn
2:00 PM on Zoom - This event is for faculty and staff.
Join the Council for Opportunity in Education for a national panel on first-generation
student success and TRIO Student Support Services.

Wednesday, November 10th
Mentoring First-Generation Graduate Students for Faculty
9:00-10:00 AM at Tate Student Center, room 473 - This event is for UGA faculty.
Join the Graduate School and hear from first-generation faculty panelists Dr. Todd
Harrop, Dr. Georgianna Martin, and Dr. Maria Navarro who will share tips for mentoring
first-generation graduate students.

Navigating Graduate School as a First-Gen Student
4:00-5:00 PM on Zoom - This event is for UGA graduate students.
The Mary Frances Early College of Education welcomes the founders of First Gen Docs and alumni of the College, Lamesha Brown, Raven Cokely, and Jason Wallace. First
Gen Docs is a virtual community affirming the experiences, amplifying the voices,
and celebrating the brilliance of first generation doctoral students. The founders
will share their graduate school experiences, discuss how they support graduate students
through the First Gen Docs community, and offer advice on navigating graduate school
for current and prospective graduate students.

Thursday, November 11th
The First-Generation College Student: Inclusion, Empowerment, and Academic Success
9:00-11:00 AM on Zoom - This event is for UGA faculty and staff.
Join the Office of Institutional Diversity (OID) where participants will learn and
discuss the experiences of first-generation college students. Participants will examine
strategic opportunities for faculty and staff to enhance the experiences of first-generation
students on campus. Dr. Amy Stich (Institute of Higher Education) and Paris Lawrence
(OID) will facilitate this session.

Friday, November 12th
First Gen Dawgs Social
5:00-6:00pm in the Miller Learning Center 253 - This event is for UGA students.
Come join student-run organization First Gen Dawgs for a social (including karaoke)
to meet other first gen students and learn more about the organization!
